First, think of NASA.  Nearly everyone has heard of two space missions in particular: Apollo 11 and Apollo 13.  The "Apollo" project was given its name because Apollo is the god of the sun.  Thus, it's fitting that a mission to the heavens is named after a god of the heavens.

Another everyday reference to Apollo is the caduceus, which is the symbol for American medical professions.  The caduceus was a special symbol to Apollo, who had powers of healing.  Some myths say Apollo traded it with Hermes for his lyre.  Others say it was Apollo's son who gave the symbol its shape.

This particular temple of Apollo is the one located in Delphi.
Finally, there are several temples of Apollo.  In Italy, Turkey, Cyprus, and Greece, temples have been found dedicated to the Greek god.  There is one at Delphi as well, the place where Apollo slayed Python.
